I was both honoured and excited to have been appointed Secretary of State for Defence in November. I have always had the greatest admiration for the professionalism and valour of all those who serve in our country’s Armed Forces, and wanted to thank you, again, for having given me so much support over the past few months.
I am determined to ensure that the Armed Forces receive the recognition they deserve for the great work they do, including through the Armed Forces Covenant, and that they evolve both to meet the changing threats that we face, and to ensure that they properly represent the modern society that they defend.
At the same time, I also wanted to take this opportunity to reassure you that I remain fully committed to representing my constituents’ views both locally and at Westminster, and to fighting the causes that matter most to the people of South Staffordshire.
In this vein, I was very concerned to hear Staffordshire County Council will be making a number of changes to bus services across South Staffordshire. Alongside removing all support for the South Staffs Connect buses, some services will no longer operate on a Sunday. This will significantly disadvantage many members of the community, particularly those who work weekends and rely on public transport to commute.
In response, I have created a petition which will be presented to the Chief Executive of Staffordshire County Council. You can access this by clicking here.
Finally, and as I have said before, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever be of assistance on any matter, big or small.
The Rt. Hon. Gavin Williamson CBE MP
